Western New England College crusies past Anna Maria in TCCC contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Returning to its winning ways in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), the Western New England College women's tennis team blanked visiting Anna Maria 9-0 Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19).

The Golden Bears, who dropped a close 5-4 decision against Endicott on Wednesday, improved their record to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) and senior co-captain Kristen Ayers (Acton, MA) captured their No 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, and teamed for a win at the No. 1 doubles spot.

WNEC's other singles winners (three though six) were freshman Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, MA), senior Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT), sophomore Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA), and senior co-captain Colleen Swan (Milford, CT).

Murnane and Barbarisi took their No. 2 doubles match while Mustafa and sophomore Jessica Haffner (Suffield, CT) won the No. 3 doubles flight.

The Amcats fall to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the league.
