SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Junior forward Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) scored the game winning goal with 7.1 seconds left as the Western New England College women's soccer team shined in its home opener with a 1-0 win over The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opponent Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday (Sept. 23) at Suprenant Field.

Western New England College improves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference while Colby-Sawyer took only its second loss of the season and is now 4-2-2 and 1-1-1 in TCCC action.

WNEC out-shot the Chargers 15-7 and had 11 corner kicks.

With timing winding down, the Golden Bears kept kept the pressure up and freshman Kelci Keene (Attleboro, MA) was able to find Mortell who dribbled down the right side for the score.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) had three saves for her second shutout of the season.
