SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Gordon in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16) during Family & Friends Weekend.

The Golden Bears improve to 9-6 overall with a 7-3 TCCC record. The Fighting Scots drop to 8-6-1 with a 4-5-1 mark in conference play.

Freshman forward Nina Vital (Ludlow, MA) notched the game-winner at 20:44, as she followed up a shot by junior forward Sara McMurray (Enfield, CT).

The Fighting Scots, who held a slight 13-10 edge in shots, had their best chance to score in the closing moments when sophomore midfielder Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, VT) scorched a shot off the crossbar.

Western New England College freshman goalkeeper Kayla Prout (Islip, NY) made four saves to pick up the shutout victory.

Gordon freshman goalkeeper Kari Christenson (Standish, ME) also made four stops.

The Golden Bears return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 19) to take on Salve Regina at 3:30 p.m. in a TCCC match.
