SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) scored in the 82nd minute to lift Western New England College to a 2-1 win over the University of New England on Saturday (Oct. 2) as part of Homecoming festivities.

The Golden Bears improve to 7-4 with a 5-1 record in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) after picking up their fourth straight victory. The Nor'easters fall to 7-3 (4-2 TCCC).

Freshman forward Nina Vital (Ludlow, MA) gave the Golden Bears an early lead with a goal in the 15th minute. It was her fifth of the season.

The Nor'easters fought back when junior forward Katie Caron (Winslow, ME) headed home a cross from freshman forward Morgan Jensen (New Hartford, CT) in the 79th minute.

Mortell answered back a short time later notching the game-winner with her fifth goal of the year.

Western New England College freshman goalkeeper Kayla Prout (Holyoke, MA) made two saves in earning the victory.

UNE junior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, NH) stopped five stops.

The Golden Bears return to the field on Tuesday (Oct. 5) hosting conference foe Eastern Nazarene at 3:30 p.m.
