NEWPORT, R.I. – The Western New England College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Salve Regina in a closely contested match between two of the top squads in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 20) at Reynolds Field.
The win marks the first in program history for Salve Regina over Western New England College.
This was the six straight win for the Seahawks who are now 12-3-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the conference. Salve Regina and Nichols are now tied for first the conference with 28 points.
The Golden Bears are 10-5-2 overall and third in the league at 8-2-1.
Junior midfielder Sean McAllister (North Arlington, NJ) scored the game's only goal in the 40th minute to secure the result for the home side.
The Golden Bears held a slight 15-14 edge in shots, including a 9-4 advantage in the second half.
Salve Regina sophomore goalkeeper Devin O'Gorman (Canton, MA) made four saves to pick up the shutout win.
Western New England College junior goalkeeper Sean Healey (Portland, CT) tied a career-high with seven saves in the contest.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 11:00 a.m. hosting Curry on Senior Day.
