Western New England College falls to New England College in conference play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Senior forward Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, CT) scored a pair of goals to lead the New England College field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Western New England College Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9) at Golden Bear Stadium.

The Pilgrims improve to 6-6 and remain unbeaten at 5-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Golden Bears slip to 4-9 with a 2-4 record in conference.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by senior midfielder Erin Griffin (Lowell, MA) three minutes into the second period.

The Pilgrims would answer just three minutes later as senior forward Samantha Escobar (Rumney, NH) tied the score a 1-1.

Kuchta tallied her first goal in the 62nd minute with an assist from junior defender Amanda Naimie (York, ME).

Kuchta provided an insurance goal just four minutes later to seal the victory as senior forward Marisa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, MA) gained the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Molly Wilcox (Northfield, NH) made nine stops for the visitors.

Freshman goalkeeper Brittney O'Brien (Carver, MA) also made nine saves for the Golden Bears.

Western New England College returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 12) to take on TCCC rival Anna Maria at 4:00 p.m. in Paxton, MA.
