SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior third base player
Angela Monaco (Monroe, CT) crashed a grand slam homer in the opener and senior second base player
Kate Post (Bridgewater, MA) capped a perfect day at the plate with three hits in the second game as the Western New England College softball team defeated Gordon 11-0 and 7-3 Saturday (Apr. 10).
The Golden Bears, who have won nine of their last 10 games, are now 15-10 overall and a perfect 10-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Monaco's blast highlighted a six-run first inning and was the second round tripper of her career.
Western New England College added four runs in the second frame and finished with 15 hits as the game ended after five innings because of the mercy rule.
Junior first base player
Trish Breault (Millville, MA) contributed three hits, including a triple. Senior center fielder
Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) and freshman left fielder
Laura Madaio (Paxton, MA) each singled and doubled.
Post reached base three times after collecting a pair of singles and a walk. She also had two-runs-batted in.
Sophomore
Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) had a two-hit shutout with a walk and two strikeouts. She is now 3-0 on the season.
In the second game, Post led another 15-hit attack with three singles. Breault tripled, singled twice, and scored three runs.
Also compiling two hits were Arsenault who finished with four hits in the twin bill, Lempicki, sophomore third base player
Sara Barnes (Berkley, MA), and sophomore left fielder
Ashley Stolarik (Wilbraham, MA).
Sophomore
Meagan Riemann (Thompson, CT) went the first six innings allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. She now has a 5-4 record.
Gordon sophomore third base player
Kerry McPartlan (Yonkers, CT) belted a two-run homer in the sixth. She also singled in the opener.
The Fighting Scots scored their third run in the sixth on a RBI single by freshman second base player
Sarah Quint (Wells, ME).
Sophomore pitcher
Emily Borden (Groton, CT) struggled on the mound, but had a nice day with the bat after notching three singles.
Gordon falls under the .500 mark at 12-13 and is now 7-9 in the conference.
