Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) and freshman midfielder
Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, NY) each scored five goals to lead the Western New England College women's lacrosse team to a 20-10 victory over visiting Gordon Thursday afternoon (Apr. 15).
Doyle also added an assist as the Golden Bears improved their record to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Senior midfielder
Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) had another big game with four goals and three assists in becoming the first player in program history to reach 300 career points. She now has 303 career points (240 goals, 63 assists).
Sophomore attacker
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) returned to the lineup after missing a game with an injury and chipped-in with three goals and two assists.
Junior attacker
Marisa Hebert (Saco, ME) had a great outing with 17 draw controls. Senior attacker
Jackie Gannon (Saunderstown, RI) picked-up a team-high four ground balls.
Gordon held an early 4-3 lead after sophomore attacker
Jordan Alexander (Portland, ME) scored two of her team high four goals in the opening 10 minutes, 14 seconds.
WNEC reeled off six straight goals, including three by Doyle and two by Toomy, to take a 9-4 advantage with 11:41 left in the half.
Senior midfielder
Katie Knaus (Kensington, CT) then netted all three of her goals in the final 9:44 as the Fighting Scots trailed by only four (11-7) at the break.
The Golden Bears scored the first four goals in the second half, including two by Fenton, and coasted the rest of the way.
Junior defender
Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA), junior attacker
Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT), and freshman attacker
Julianne Green (Brightwaters, NY) had the other goals for Western New England College.
Junior goalie
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) compiled nine saves. Poli and Fenton each finished with three caused turnovers.
Gordon sophomore midfielder
Hala Coker (East Falmouth, MA) scored two goals with an assist while senior defender
Molly Lawry (Iowa City, IA) also had a goal. Freshman goalie
Amelia Vierstra (Concord, MA) made some nice stops in finishing with 16 saves.
