BOSTON, Mass. - Senior forward Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) scored a pair of goals in the second half to lead the Western New England College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Wentworth Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 21).

The Golden Bears evened their record at 4-4 and improved to 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Leopards drop to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.

The teams battled to a scoreless opening half before Mortell tallied her second goal of the season just 1:25 into the second period.

She netted what proved to be the game-winner a second less than six minutes later in the 53rd minute with an assist from freshman forward Nina Vital (Ludlow, MA).

Wentworth got on the board when junior midfielder Deborah Lesky (Newton, MA) scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minutes.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Prout (Holyoke, MA) made five saves in raising her record to 2-2.

Sophomore Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, MA) stopped four shots for the Leopards.
