Western New England College falls to Nor'easters 4-1 in conference action

BIDDEFORD, Maine
- Freshman Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, ME) came off the bench to score two second-half goals to lead the University of New England field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Western New England College Saturday afternoon (Sept. 25).

The Nor'easters evened their record at 4-4 and improved to 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Golden Bears dropped to 3-6 after suffering their first league loss in three outings.

UNE  jumped to an early lead when senior Michaela Franey (York, ME) scored just 4:57 into the game.

Western New England College tied the score at 1-1 when senior Kaela Jalbert (Turner, ME) notched her first goal of the season at the 15:02 mark.

LaPointe than tallied what proved to be the game-winner 4:32 into the second half before senior Bri Youland (Turner, ME) gave the hosts a two-goal margin at the 53:47 mark. Lapointe netted the final goal with 4:53 remaining to complete the scoring. Junior Bree Tupper (Winthrop, ME) chipped-in with two assists.

Senior goaltender Ayla Nelson (Auburn, MA) made eight saves for the Nor'easters while freshman  Brittney O'Brien (Carver, MA) also stopped eight shots for the Golden Bears.

Western New England College returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 29) with a non-league contest against Manhattanville at 7:00 p.m. at Golden Bear Stadium.
