Nina Vital hat trick lifts Western New England College past Elms for first win of season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Freshman Forward Nina Vital (Ludlow, MA) scored the first three goals of her collegiate career as Western New England College defeated visiting Elms 4-0 in a non-league match women's soccer Saturday afternoon (Sept. 4) at Suprenant Field.

This was the first win of the season for the Golden Bears who are now 1-1.

WNEC took a 2-0 halftime advantage on goals by Vital in the ninth minute and senior midfielder Shannon Pescatello (Wethersfield, CT) in the 21st minute. Junior midfielder Morgan Vogt (Henniker, NH) assisted on the second score.

Vital then fired home her second goal in the 63rd minute and completed the hat trick just 1:49 later.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Prout (Holyoke, MA) needed to make only two saves in gaining her first collegiate win and shutout.

Elms junior goalie Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA) stopped 13 shots (10 in the opening half) in a solid performance. This was the season opener for the Blazers.
