Windell Hinkson leads Salve Regina to 62-60 TCCC win over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
– Senior guard Windell Hinkson (Groton, CT) nailed two clutch three-pointers in the closing minute to lead Salve Regina to a 62-60 win over Western New England in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match-up Saturday afternoon (Jan. 22) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Hinkson knotted the game at 58-58 with 47 seconds remaining, then delivered a three that put the visitors up 61-60 with just 22 seconds left in regulation. He finished with a team high 13 points.

The Seahawks improve to 9-7 overall with a 3-2 mark in TCCC play while the Golden Bears drop to 1-14 with a 1-4 conference record.

Senior forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) led Western New England posted a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior center Conor Lomas (Wilbraham, MA) contributed with 14 rebounds and six points. Junior guard Andre Shaw (New York, NY) came off the bench to score 14 points in the contest.

Salve Regina received solid performances from freshman forward Scott St. Lawrence (Litchfield, NY) with 12 points and nine rebounds as well as senior guard Ryan Birrell (Hope, RI) with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Both teams struggled from the field as Western New England shot 36.4% compared to 34.2% for Salve Regina. Each team grabbed a total of 46 rebounds.

Western New England returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 27) as they host conference rival Nichols at 5:30 p.m.
