Western New England finishes in seventh place at its own WNE Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England women's cross-country team placed seventh among 19 teams at its own WNE Invitational Saturday (Oct. 15).

This was the largest meet in the 12-year history of the event with 191 runners competing on the 5,000-meter campus course.

Sophomore Maura McCusker (Westford, MA ) led the Golden Bears by placing 49th with a time of 21 minutes, 41.41 seconds. Sophomore Alana Regan (Tewksbury, MA) was 52nd in 21:52.09 while junior Hannah Laviolette (Three Rivers, MA) took 58th in 22:03.88.

Westfield State had four runners finish in the top five to capture team honors with 30 points.

WSU freshman Amy Trainque (Fitchburg, MA) was the individual champion in 19:12.44. Freshman Olivia Marshall (North Andover, MA) was third (19:48.06) followed by senior Marissa Bonito (Rockland, MA) (19:57.34), and junior Rachael Cardin (Sutton, MA) (20:09.75).

WPI had three runners in the top 10 to finish in the second place with 42 points. Junior Vicky Hewey (Sanford, ME) led the Engineers with a second-place showing in 19:18.75.

Clark was third (97) with Roger Williams (101), and Gordon (136) rounding out the top five.
