MILTON, Mass. – The 25
th ranked Western New England men's soccer team used a pair of late goals to defeat Curry 2-0 on Saturday (Oct. 15) night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Walter M. Katz Field.
The Golden Bears run their current win streak to seven games and remain unbeaten in conference play (7-0) with an overall record of 13-2-1. The Colonels drop to 9-8-1 on the year and have a 2-4-1 mark in conference.
After a scoreless opening half, WNE was finally able to break through in the 69
th minute as junior defender
Bobby Jameson (Northbridge, MA) scored on a corner kick by senior midfielder
Eric Marcelino (Farmington, MA) to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore forward
Mike Wysocki (Somers, CT) added an insurance tally just two minutes later to seal the win for the Golden Bears.
Western New England held a 17-10 advantage in shots with a 9-6 edge in shots on target. WNE also enjoyed a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Domenick Villano (Bronxville, NY) made six saves to preserve the shutout victory in net.
Curry junior
Brandon Martins (Attleboro, MA) turned away seven shots in his first start of the season.
#25 Western New England will host #9 Wesleyan on Wednesday (Oct. 19) at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference match of two o the top squads in the region.
