SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England women's soccer team ended its regular season with a 3-1 loss at No. 19 Springfield Tuesday evening (Oct. 25) in a non-conference outing at Brock-Affleck Field.
Senior forward
Katie Mantie (Wallingford, CT) scored twice for the Pride who ran its winning streak to eight matches and overall record to 12-3-1.
Mantie gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute with an assist from senior midfielder
Jackie Moscardelli (Weymouth, MA).
The Golden Bears tightened their defense and held SC scoreless for the rest of the half.
Springfield went ahead 2-0 when sophomore midfielder
Ashley Carresi (Billerica, MA) netted a goal in the 64th minute with another assist from Moscardelli.
Western New England struck right back getting within one following an unassisted goal by freshman forward
Tayler Mazurski (Wolcott, CT) in the 72nd minute.
Mantie, however, fired in an insurance goal with 2:20 remaining to seal the win with an assist from senior forward
Amber Thornton (Troy, NY).
Springfield dominated the shots by a 22-8 margin and had three corner kicks to none for Western New England.
Senior goalkeeper
Hanna MacDougall (Warren, RI) made four saves for the Pride.
Sophomore
Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) compiled six saves for the Golden Bears.
Eighth-seeded Western New England (4-13-2) will visit top-seeded University of New England (12-2-2) in a quarterfinal round match of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) at noon Saturday (Oct. 29) in Biddeford, Maine.
