Hazard Field. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of regulation time and two 10-minute overtime periods.
The eighth-seeded Golden Bears (4-13-3) will travel to fourth-seeded Endicott in a semifinal round game on Wednesday.
The teams traded conversions in the opening two rounds of the shootout with seniors
Morgan Vogt (Henniker, NH) and
Sara McMurray (Enfield, CT) of WNE and sophomore
Casey Scott (North Adams, MA) and senior
Alice Read (Auburn, ME) of UNE finding the back of the net.
In the third round, WNE sophomore goalkeeper
Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) and UNE freshman goalie
Sarah Papapietro (Bonita, CA) came up with stops to keep the shootout tally 2-all.
Senior defender
Mallorie Nai (West Suffield, CT) gave WNE the advantage for good in the fourth round, drilling a shot just under the crossbar. The Nor'easters fourth-round attempt sailed wide, setting up the clinching conversion by Western New England senior
Julia Hadden (North Smithfield, RI).
The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on Vogt's marker from close range.
The Nor'easters had forced overtime in the final minute of regulation when senior
Jesalyn Dvorak (Windsor, CT) controlled a loose ball and booted it into the net with just 37 seconds remaining.
UNE nearly won the contest in the first overtime, but WNE freshman back
Gabrielle Bates (Wilbraham, MA) cleared a UNE shot that had reached the goal mouth with Trezise off her line.
Trezise finished with four saves, while senior Jess Woodworth (Concord, NH) recorded a pair for the Nor'easters during regulation and the two overtime periods.
