University of New England rallies for 3-1 win over Western New England in CCC game

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team rallied for a 3-1 win over Western New England to remain unbeaten in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
 
The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute as senior forward Sara McMurray (Enfield, CT) netted her third goal of the season on an assist from senior midfielder Krista Gangloff (Newington, CT).
 
UNE scored an equalizer at 9:38 on a header from sophomore midfielder Katy Marshall (Eliot, ME) that was assisted by junior defender Nicole Faircloth (Westfield, MA).
 
After heading to halftime knotted at 1-1; the Nor'easters grabbed the lead in the 47th minute on a goal from senior midfielder Alice Read (Auburn, ME).
 
Senior forward Sarah Richardson (Rochester, NY) provided an insurance tally for UNE at 81:28 to seal the victory.
 
Senior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, NH) recorded seven saves to earn the win in net.
 
Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) also turned away seven shots in the contest.
 
The Golden Bears return to the field on Tuesday (Oct. 11) to host Roger Williams at 4:00 p.m. in a conference match.
