NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Western New England completed the best regular season in its 31-year history with a 28-18 victory over UMass Dartmouth in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division game Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5).
The Golden Bears improved to 9-1 while establishing a new school mark with their eighth consecutive victory. Coach
Keith Emery's squad also finished unbeaten in the division with a 7-0 mark.
Western New England will host Bogan Division winner Framingham State (7-3) next Saturday (Nov. 12) in the NEFC Championship Game.
Senior quarterback
Bryce Brown (Guilford, CT) had one of his best outings of the season completing 5-of-9 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown while running for 146 yards on 15 carries with two other scores.
Western New England scored all of its points in the opening half starting when Brown ran 15 yards at the 5:54 mark of the first quarter.
The Corsairs cut the margin to 7-3 when junior
Edgar Osols (Summit, NJ) kicked a 25-yard field goal at the 1:32 mark.
Brown then had a two-yard run for a 14-3 advantage just 38 seconds into the second stanza before the Golden Bears used a couple of big plays to extend their lead. Junior running back
Mike Graham (Norwalk, CT) bolted 90 yards for his first rushing of the season and Brown connected with freshman receiver
Kareem Hines (South Burlington, VT) on a 74-yard pass that was the team's longest scoring TD of the year.
UMass Dartmouth scored twice in the final period on a one-yard run by sophomore running back
Darrius Wood (Canton, MA) and a four-yard run by junior back
Darrien Furr (East Taunton, MA) that was followed by a two-point conversion.
Western New England's defense again was outstanding forcing six turnovers, including four interceptions that set a new school mark with 23 for the season. Junior free safety
Nicholas Silvester (Weatogue, CT) collected his team-high sixth pick of the year. Junior corner backs

Ryan Connolly (Cheshire, CT) (the first of his collegiate career), and
Alex Miller (Seekonk, MA) had the other interceptions.
Junior defensive end
Greg Hanson (Kingston, MA) and sophomore linebacker
Ryan Critelli (Sauquoit, NY) each came up with a fumble recovery. Junior linebacker
Nolan Rickard (Southington, CT) compiled a team high seven tackles followed by
Corey Brown with six stops.
Western New England outgained UMass Dartmouth by a 456 to 288 margin.
Junior backup quarterback
Brendan McNeish (Springfield, MA) completed 12-of-28 passes for 128 yards for the Corsairs, but suffered three interceptions and was sacked twice. Junior receiver
Joe Luiz (New Bedford, MA) had a game-high six catches for 43 yards.
Senior linebacker
John Cordasco (Rockaway, NJ) had another strong showing with 14 tackles with three resulting for losses.
Despite the loss on Senior Day, the Corsairs ended their season with a respectable 5-5 record (4-3 Boyd) after winning only three games a year ago.
