Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) and junior midfielder
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) each contributed seven points to lead Western New England to a 19-5 win over Colby-Sawyer in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Wednesday (Apr. 20) at Mercer Field.
The Golden Bears improve to 12-4 overall and are now 9-1 in TCCC play. Colby-Sawyer falls to 7-8 and is currently 5-5 in conference action.
Colby-Sawyer junior attacker
Brittney Murphy (Woburn, MA) opened the scoring at 27:48 in the first half to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Bears then scored 13 straight goals and took a commanding 13-2 lead into the half time break.
Barbato had a game-high five goals and added two assists, while Toomy contributed four goals and a game-high three assists for the Golden Bears.
Freshman midfielder
Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) contributed three goals, two assists, four ground balls and four draw controls.
Senior defender
Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) and freshman attacker
Shauna Murray (Queensbury, NY) each tallied a pair of goals and an assist.
The Chargers were led by Murphy who finished with three goals and a pair of assists.
Western New England senior goalkeepers
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) and
Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) combined to make seven saves in the win.
Sophomore goalkeepers
Liz Malenfant (Siasconset, MA) and
Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, VT) combined for nine saves for Colby-Sawyer.
Western New England will close out regular season play on Saturday (Apr. 23) at 1:00 p.m., hosting rival Endicott in a battle for first-place in the conference.
