Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) scored three times as top-seeded Western New England defeated eighth-seeded Nichols 15-8 in a quarterfinal round contest of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Lacrosse Championship Saturday (Apr. 30).
Each player also had an assist to help the Golden Bears improve their record to 14-4.
Western New England advances to the semifinals against fifth-seeded Gordon (a 23-13 winner over fourth-seeded Roger Williams) next Wednesday (May 4).
Nichols started strong taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman attacker
Melanie Chhouy (Pepperell, MA) at 24:41 before the Golden Bears netted a pair of goals in 66 seconds by Daniels and senior attacker
Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT) with 22:32 left in the half.
The teams traded goals twice before the Bison knotted the score at 4-4 when freshman attacker
Toni Minelli (Newington, CT) fired in a shot at the 3:03 mark.
The game turned around completely when Western New England scored four times (two goals each by Daniels and Barbato) in the final 2:03 to take an 8-4 lead at the break.
Western New England put the game away by scoring the first six goals of the second half to cap a 10-0 run and take a commanding 14-4 lead on Barbato's final score with 11:40 remaining in the game.

Junior goalie
Danielle Mott (Cranston, RI) recorded 11 saves in a nice performance, including six in the opening half that kept the visitors in the game. She also had three ground balls. The Bison end their season with a 4-12 record.
Western New England finished with a 37-18 advantage in shots and 23-19 edge in ground balls.
