DUDLEY, Mass. – The Western New England women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action with a 15-6 victory over Nichols on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 6) at Vendetti Field.
The Golden Bears improve to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in conference games while Nichols dips to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Western New England was led by senior attacker
Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) and freshman midfielder
Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) who each notched four goals in the contest.
Freshman midfielder
Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, NY) scored a pair of goals, and classmate
Shelby Trebbe (Wilbraham, MA) contributed a goal and an assist.
Trebbe scored the opening goal of the game just 28 seconds in.
Daniels scored two straight to put the Golden Bears up 3-0; with Barbato adding three in a row to stretch the edge to 6-1.
The Bison were led offensively by freshman attackers
Melanie Chhouy (Pepperell, MA) who scored two goals and
Toni Minelli (Newington, CT) who added two points on a goal and an assist.
Western New England held a 14-8 edge in draw controls, led by senior defender
Nicole Poli (Medford, MA) with six.
Poli also recorded a goal and had a game-high seven caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) made five stops to record the win; she was relieved by senior goalkeeper
Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) who stopped three shots in the final 9:33.
Nichols junior goaltender Danielle Mott (Cranston, RI) made 13 saves in the loss, including nine in the opening frame.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Apr. 9), traveling to Gordon for a TCCC contest at 2:30 p.m.
