- Freshman midfielder Thomas Henshall (Madison, NJ) scored the only goal of the game just 4:24 into the contest as Bowdoin blanked Western New England 1-0 in a non-league men's soccer match Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears, members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), are now 2-1 and ranked fourth in the region.

The Golden Bears drop to 6-2 after having their four-game win streak ended.

This was the first meeting between the two highly-regarded sides and it was barn-burner.

Each squad had nine shots and nine fouls with the hosts having a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Hensall netted his first collegiate goal after re-directing a feed from fellow freshman forward Sam White (Falmouth, ME).

Western New England had a six-to-three advantage in shots in the second half, but couldn't get the equalizer.

The Golden Bears had a great scoring opportunity in the 60th minute when sophomore forward Jake Bartnik (East Longmeadow, MA) fired in a shot that sophomore goalie Will Wise (Cohasset, MA) stopped for one of his four saves of the game.

Sophomore Domenick Villano (Tuckahoe, NY) made three saves for Western New England.
