SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward
Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, RI) tallied a goal and an assist as Salve Regina was able to hang on for a 2-1 victory over Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Saturday (Sept. 24) at Suprenant Field.
Birrell put the Seahawks out in front in the 10th minute as she blasted a shot to the top right corner on an assist from freshman midfielder

Salve Regina dictated play in the opening half with several chances to increase their lead, as they outshot Western New England 10-2.
The second half saw the Golden Bears hold a 13-6 advantage in shots, and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Seahawks were able to land an insurance goal at 82:54 as Birrell fed senior forward
Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, CT) to put the visitors up 2-0.
Western New England continued to apply pressure as senior midfielder
Morgan Vogt (Henniker, NH) converted a corner kick in the near post past sophomore goalkeeper
Jessica Lane (Marshfield, MA) at 83:32.
The Golden Bears had one final chance to equalize in the 87th minute but senior forward
Krista Gangloff (Newington, CT) had her shot saved on the line by a Seahawk defender.
Lane made four saves to earn the win in net for Salve Regina.

Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) compiled five saves on the day for the Golden Bears.
Salve Regina improves to 7-2 (3-0 CCC); while WNE falls to 1-7-1 (0-3 CCC).
Western New England returns to the field on Tuesday (Sept. 27) as they travel to Elms at 7:00 p.m. for a non-league match.
