Elms takes 3-0 decision over visiting Western New England in non-conference play

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Western New England falls to Elms by a 3-0 score line on Tuesday (Sept. 27) night in a non-conference match at Leary Field.

The Blazers improve to 3-2-2 overall and earns their first victory over Western New England since the 1993 season. The Golden Bears fall to 1-8-1 on the season.

Elms jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Sevonnah LaRochelle (Chicopee, MA) found the back of the net in the 10th minute.

Sophomore midfielder Gianna Gorneault (Springfield, MA) put the Blazers up 2-0 in the 24th minute as she finished on a chance set up by sophomore midfielder Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, MA).

Senior forward Jennifer Killion (Canbridge, MA) sealed the win for Elms in the 75th minute as she knocked in her own rebound off of a missed penalty kick opportunity.

Elms held a slight 17-14 advantage in shots; and an 8-7 edge in shots on target. The Golden Bears had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks taken.

Blazers' senior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA) tallied seven saves in 81 minutes of shutout play to earn the win.

Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) made five stops in the contest.

The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Oct. 1) as they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 12:30 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match.
