FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Western New England women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Buffalo State in a first round game of the Farmingdale State Tournament Saturday (Sept. 3).
Freshman forward
Meghan Allen (Big Flats, NY) scored the first two goals of her college career as the Bengals improved to 2-0.
Buffalo State took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by junior defender
Sara Sweeney (Niskayuna, NY) in the sixth minute. Allen then netted her first goal in the 40th minute to help her team take a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Golden Bears pulled within 2-1 when freshman forward
Avery Clark (Groton, CT) fired in her first collegiate goal just 29 seconds into the second half with an assist from senior forward
Sara McMurray (Enfield, CT).
Allen, however, knocked in her second goal 3:32 later to increase the lead to 3-1 and senior midfielder
Tina Boberskyj (Rochester, NY) scored on a corner kick from sophomore forward
Amanda Smyth (North Tonawanda, NY) in the 75th minute to complete the scoring.
Buffalo State had a 14-6 advantage in shots and slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Linda Banfield (Honoeye Falls, NY) needed to make only two saves for the win.

Kayla Prout (Holyoke, MA) started for the Golden Bears and permitted three goals while making three saves. Sophomore
Victoria Trezise (Islip, NY) allowed a goal and had three saves in the 37:23.
In other games Saturday, host Farmingdale State posted a 1-0 double overtime victory over Bard (NY) while Salisbury State (MD) blanked Ursinus (PA) by an identical 1-0 score.
Western New England will meet Salisbury at 3:00 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 4) in the final day of the tournament.
