SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University women's volleyball team hit .233 while holding visiting Eastern Nazarene to minus-.077 en route to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-19 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory on Wednesday at the Alumni Healthful Living Center field house. The Golden Bears improved to 16-3 overall, including 4-1 in the CCC, and already surpassed last season's win total when they went 15-15. The Lions, meanwhile, dipped to 11-13 and 1-4.
Devyn Frank led all attackers with eight kills and hit .800 in 10 attempts for Western New England.
Tyler Singh (.429) added seven kills and five solo blocks, while
Kelsey Armstrong came off the bench to chip in six kills.
Dana Day and Cayla Clinkscale (.333) led the Lions with four kills apiece and Kori Sorenson led all players with 13 digs.
Western New England had more kills (35) than Eastern Nazarene had kills and errors combined (28).
The Golden Bears had a slow start with a .182 attack percentage in the opening set before tearing it up with a .393 clip in the second. But it was a team performance as Coach Bret Stothart was able to play the entire 16-player roster, getting contributions from everyone.
Heather Mears, who leads the conference in assists with a 9.15 average, did little to hurt that notion tonight as she served up 21 in just two sets. Speaking of serving, the Golden Bears had 13 aces for their second-most in a match this season;
Kendra Ouimette had four and
Inna Sergeychik, three.
