Golden Bears Ousted by Nichols in CCC Men's Soccer Quarterfinals

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass.--Pat Gaumond scored the game-winning goal 5 minutes and 47 seconds into overtime to lift host Nichols to a 2-1 victory Saturday evening over Western New England in a No. 4/5 quarterfinal matchup of the 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament at Vendetti Field.  The Bison improve to 12-7 on the season and advance to next week's conference semifinals. The Golden Bears, meanwhile, will await word on an Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Championship bid with their 9-8-3 ledger.

Gaumond's first-ever tally on a free kick that found its way through the wall and into the back of the net was one of two Nichols goals that frustrated the WNE defense. The Bison took a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute when Scott Coderre took advantage of an errant backpass by a Golden Bear defender to his keeper and Coderre tapped it in for his ninth goal of the season.

Jake Bartnik evened the game at 1-1 in the 13th minute on a breakaway, sliding the shot low to the right of the NC keeper. Bartnik leads the Golden Bears in goals (4), assists (4) and total points (12).

Domenick Villano had eight saves for Western New England while the Nichols' keeper finished with seven.

Western New England held a slim 20-17 shots advantage but had a comfortable margin in corner kicks at 7 to 1.

The Golden Bears had two solid chances to win the contest in the extra session. In the 92nd minute, Ryan Williams caught up to an errant pass to Levine, who didn't collect the ball at the 6-yard box, and whipped around with a right-footed shot the swerved to the left-side of the side netting. Then two minutes later, Levine stopped Bartnik from close range.
