SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England women's tennis team opened its abbreviated spring season with a 9-0 victory over visiting American International Thursday (Mar. 29).
The Golden Bears, who played most of their matches in the fall, are now 5-6 while the Yellow Jackets remain winless at 0-5.

Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) didn't drop a point in capturing her number one singles match. DeSimone and senior
Jess Haffner (Suffield, CT) also took an 8-0 win at the top doubles position.
Senior
Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA), freshman
Valerie Conway (Cumberland, RI) and sophomores
Gillian Adams (Carmel, NY) and
Cynthia Thompson (Three Rivers, MA) also won their singles matches.
Thompson had the longest outing finally emerging a 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 winner at the number five singles flight.
Conway and Adams recorded an 8-2 win at number two doubles.
AIC forfeited both a singles and doubles match.
Western New England will host Sage (NY) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4.
