BRISTOL, R.I. – The Western New England softball team gained a split of a doubleheader with Roger Williams Tuesday (Apr. 24) taking the nightcap 6-2 after dropping the opener by the score of 3-1.
The Golden Bears, who are now 14-20 overall, are sixth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 7-8 mark heading into Wednesday's final games of the regular season against Endicott.
The Hawks (17-20) closed out their conference slate with a 10-8 record and clinched the fourth seed for the upcoming CCC Championship.

Today's twin bill originally started on Sunday, but was suspended in the third inning after RWU took a 2-1 lead in the third on a pair of unearned runs. When play resumed today, the Hawks scored their final run on a homer by junior catcher
Lauren Tierney (Middleboro, MA) in the fifth. She also was hit by a pitch twice and stole two bases.
WNE had taken a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by freshman designated player
Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT). Sophomore center fielder
Maria Francese (Hinsdale, MA) had a hit and run scored. Senior
Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) fell to 7-7 after giving up just five hits and one earned run with six walks and five strikeouts.

Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, NY) allowed six hits with no walks and four strikeouts to improve to 10-6.
Game 2 – Western New England 6, Roger Williams 2
Senior
Alyssa Obin (Plymouth, MA) got the Golden Bears back on the winning track with a complete game effort. She permitted eight hits, walked two, and fanned five in evening her record at 7-7.

Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) put WNE ahead with a two-run double in the first inning. The hosts tied the contest in the bottom of the inning when freshman third base player
Caroline Atkinson (Milford, MA) clouted a two-run homer.
Western New England broke the tie by scoring four unearned runs in the fourth. Francese and freshman right fielder
Jocelyn Agnelli (Winchendon, MA) had RBI singles in the inning.
Obin, meanwhile, got stronger as the game moved on retiring 11 of the last12 batters.

Julia Giancola (Durham, CT) each had two hits for the Hawks who stranded six runners on base.
