NEWPORT, R.I. – Sixth-seeded Western New England saw its season ended after suffering a 6-2 loss to second-seeded Endicott in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball Championship Thursday evening (May 3) at Toppa Field on the campus Salve Regina.
The Golden Bears, who were 2-2 in the in the event, had advanced through the elimination bracket after defeating fourth-seeded Roger Williams 11-2 in an afternoon contest.
Western New England posted a 17-23 record this spring.

WNE pounded-out 14 hits as sophomore center fielder
Maria Francese (Hinsdale, MA) went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and four runs batted in.
With the score tied at 1-all heading into the top of the fourth, the Golden Bears exploded for seven runs on eight hits. Francese started thingd with a three-run blast (her first of the season) while senior pitcher
Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) and senior first base player
Sara Barnes (Berkley, MA) had RBI singles, Senior catcher
Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) and freshman designated player
Christina Speroni (Cumberland, RI) had run-scoring doubles to give Western New England an 8-1 lead.
Barnes also finished with three hits while Lempicki, Speroni, and freshman left fielder
Hannah Hill (Malden, MA) each had two safties. Lempicki (10-8) pitched four innings allowing two runs and four hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts to earn the victory.
Designated player Kara Lewis had two hits for the Hawks (19-23).
Endicott 6, Western New England 2
Endicott rallied from a 2-1 deficit by scoring three times in the fourth inning with a two-run double by junior third base player
Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, CT) bringing home the tying and go-ahead runs.Freshman right fielder
Jess Linden (Stratford, CT) also had two hits (including a double) as did sophomore second base player
Jesse Bilafer (Concord, MA).

Cam Sprague (CLifton Park, NY) pitched four scoreless innings permitting five hits with no walks and a strikeout for the win.
Barnes had a RBI single in the first and run-scoring double in the third to give the Golden Bears an early 2-0 advantage.
Lempicki, who had two hits, suffered the defeat after giving up 10 hits with four walks and three strikeouts.Farncese also had two hits for a five-day day at the plate.
