Field Hockey Drops Home Opener to Mount Holyoke

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Kirsten Kilburn scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead visiting Mount Holyoke to a 4-0 victory Tuesday over Western New England in non-conference field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium under windy conditions. The Lyons improve to 4-2 while the Golden Bears dip to 2-4 after making their home debut this season.

Angelica Pascual gave Mount Holyoke all the offense it would need in the 13th minute, jamming the ball past keeper Kaitlyn Hall on top of the goalmouth after a shot was sent in by Kilburn. The Lyons took a commanding 3-0 lead when Christine Ianni and Kilburn scored three minutes apart beginning in the 28th minute.

Western New England had a golden opportunity to tie the score at 1-1 in the 24th minute when Chelsea Hayes released a shot from the left side, but MHC keeper Anne O'Byrne was equal to the task. Alyssa Chamberlain followed with a rebound shot but it was saved by a defender.

The Lyons held a huge territorial advantage in the first half when they took a 3-0 lead into the intermission and held a 10-4 advantage in shots. They finished the game outshooting the Golden Bears 25 to 12.

Hall finished with 13 saves while trying to keep the Golden Bears within striking distance.

O'Byrne (4 saves, 65:23) and Emma (2, 4:37) combined for the shutout.
