Box Score
NEWPORT, R.I.--Shawn DaCruz scored with 30 seconds left in regulation for Western New England University, but Rainer Randell scored a heroic goal of his own with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime to give host Salve Regina a 2-1 sudden-victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action at Reynolds Field on Saturday. The Golden Bears saw their three-game winning streak come to an end and even their record at 4-4-1 overall (1-1 CCC), while the CCC-leading Seahawks improve to 8-0 (3-0 CCC).
After a scoreless first half, Salve Regina finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 79th minute when Bobby Ernst scored his fourth goal of the season on a pass from Jacob Brigandi.
DaCruz found the back of the net, unassisted, for his first goal of 2012 to force the extra session.
But Evan Thomas and Kyle Knoth combined for some nifty passing to set up Randell for his sixth goal and the game-winner.
The game was evenly played as Salve Regina had a 17-15 edge in shots and both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Goalkeepers
Nick Starr and Daniel Stern for the Golden Bears and Seahawks, respectively, both posted five saves.
