SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University women's soccer team employed four different goal scorers en route to a come-from-behind 4-2 win Tuesday against visiting Elms College in a non-conference clash at Suprenant Field. The win evens Western New England's record at 5-5-1 heading into the latter part of its schedule, while the Blazers fall to 1-6-1.
The go-ahead goal came in the 67th minute when
Jocelyn Rose was able to find the back of the net following a corner kick by
Rachel Suntag. Rose's first goal of the season put the Golden Bears up for good at 3-2, but they eventually got some insurance from
Tayler Mazurski with two minutes remaining in the game to make the final margin 4-2.
Western New England tallied the first score of the game four minutes in when
Bonnie Bousquet headed home a perfectly placed cross from Mazurski. The goal was Bousquet's second of the season.
The Blazers tied it 12 minutes later on a goal by Gina DiGiovanni, and then took the lead, 2-1, in the 37th minute when Marissa Yowell scored her fourth goal of the season.
The Golden Bears were able to tie the score 2-2 before halftime when
Sarah Marois beat the Blazers goalkeeper in the 40th minute.
Western New England outshot Elms in the first half by a 12-3 margin, and had four corner kicks to the Blazers zero. Overall, the Golden Bears outshot Elms 23-4.
The Golden Bears resume Commonwealth Coast Conference play this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against visiting Eastern Nazarene.
