Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.--Jaynie Mueller registered three points on a goal and an assist but it wasn't enough as the Western New England University field hockey team lost a 6-3 non-conference decision on the road to Clark on Thursday. Western New England falls to 3-6 while the Cougars improve to 5-3.

It was a frustrating night for the Golden Bears, who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first half. Caitlin Foster put the visitors on the scoreboard first in the 6th minute with her team-best sixth goal of the season on a pass from Mueller. After Mel Melkonian tied it in the 14th minute with her 16th tally, Western New England reclaimed the lead five minutes later as freshman Brooke Kumnick continued her hot streak with her third goal. (Kumnick scored her first two career goals in the team's last outing on Tuesday.)

The teams ended the first half tied at 2-all to set the stage for a wild opening 15 minutes of the second. Clark led for the first time in the 39th minute when Kelly Hart netted the first of her two markers before Mueller tied it 3-3 with an unassisted goal at the 41:53 mark.

Then the floodgates opened up in favor of the Cougars, who took the lead for good with a pair of goals 1 minute and 58 seconds apart starting at 44:47 on the clock. Melkonian sealed the win with her third goal of the game in the 62nd minute.

The Western New England defense was under pressure the whole contest as the Cougars held advantages of 27-7 in shots and 16-10 in penalty corners. Kaitlyn Hall stopped 14 shots for the Golden Bears.
