Elena Radzikowski scored a season-high 16 points, including 6 of 6 from the free throw line, to lead Western New England University to a 59-46 comeback victory Tuesday over visiting Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball contest at the Alumni Healthful Living Center field house. The Golden Bears up their record to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the CCC, while Wentworth dips to 7-5 and 2-3.
Radzikowski also pulled down five rebounds and dished three assists. Fellow senior
Emily Savino and freshman
Chelsea Vujs chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively. Savino hauled in a season-high nine rebounds to pace all players.
Kendra Kerr led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Leopards. Carly Rogers came off the bench to net 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and she also had eight rebounds.
Wentworth held Western New England to 28 percent shooting from the floor to take a 26-18 lead into the intermission, leading by as many as 11 points.
However, the Golden Bears regrouped and scored the first 6 points of the second half to pull within 26-24 on four points by
Radzikowski. Several minutes later with WIT clinging to a 33-32 lead with 12 minutes and 7 seconds left, Radzikowski made two free throws that started a 15-3 run and WNE never looked back.
Western New England outscored Wentworth, 41-20, in the second half thanks to some solid field goal shooting at 54.5 percent, making 12 of 22 attempts. The Golden Bears were also aggressive driving to the basket, yielding 17 of 24 for 70.8 percent at the free throw line for the game.
