Women's Volleyball Splits on Saturday to Take Third Place at MIT Quad Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Western New England University women's volleyball team concluded the MIT Quadrangular Tournament on Saturday with a 3-0 loss at the hands of UMass-Boston before rebounding to sweep Rivier University to finish in third-place at the two-day event. The Golden Bears now stand at 16-7 on the season.

Freshman setter Jenna Leuck represented the Golden Bears on the all-tournament team, which included Most Valuable Player Nicole Gagnier of the host Engineers, Emily O'Reilly from Rivier, UMass-Boston's Elizabeth Glavan, Megan Pollock, and Megan Gebhard of MIT.

In the 25-22, 25-17, 25-12 win against RU (18-8 overall), senior Devyn Frank posted match bests of nine kills and .615 attack percentage for a WNE offense that hit .229 as a team. Kelsey Armstrong and Tyler Singh added eight and seven kills, respectively, with both players hitting .400. Rachel Meachem and Leuck combined for 30 assists.

Nicole Peacock and Lauren Silverman had eight kills apiece for the Raiders, who hit .079 as a squad. O'Reilly posted a match-high 21 assists, and Jessica Amaral made 14 digs.

Junior Grace Kucharski was a big reason RU didn't get more kills with her match-high 23 digs.

Frank had a kill and two service aces to end the first set, setting the tone for WNE's sweep.

Kasey Cameron had 10 kills and Maureen Pollet had seven in the 25-23, 25-17, 27-25 loss to the 14-12 Beacons. Leuck added 16 assists, and Kucharski notched 25 digs.

Kirsten Morrison led UMB with nine kills and .364 hitting.

Despite the fact the WNE didn't win a set, the match featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes.
