Field Hockey Ends Season at Endicott College

Box Score BEVERLY, Mass.--The Western New England University field hockey team ended the 2013 campaign on Saturday with a 7-1 loss on the road at the hands of Endicott College. The visiting Golden Bears end up 3-15 overall and 2-10 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while the Gulls improve to 9-10 on the year and 6-6 in the CCC to claim a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

Sophomore Tori Cirocco deposited her fourth goal for WNE in the 65th minute. Alissa Doiron drew a defender to her and fed Cirocco for a tip-in at the right post.

Mackenzie Hurst came off the bench to lead EC with two goals and six points, while Emily Sawchuck notched a hat-trick.

Elizabeth Leclair gave the Gulls an early lead just 1 minute and 59 seconds after the opening whistle, and Hurst scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 9th minute.

Western New England freshman goalkeepers Emily Arnold (9 saves) and Jessica Hale (6) combined for 15 stops. Lizetta Solarik posted seven stops in the EC cage.

Doiron was one of four seniors--captains Jaynie Mueller, Sarah Race, along with Kimberly Perez--who made their final appearance in a WNE uniform. For Doiron, it was gratifying to play her first full season after two ACL surgeries on one knee--responding with four goals and an assist in (12 starts) 17 games after not registering a point while limited to four games the previous three years.
