SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England used a strong start to coast to a 17-10 victory Wednesday against Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action at Golden Bear Stadium. The host Golden Bears, who are now 5-1 at home, improve to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCC, while the Hawks slip to 5-7 and 3-2 in the conference.
Western New England was led offensively by freshman
Taylor Scialdone with a game-high six points on five goals, while sophomore
Kaitlynn Stevens matched her with five goals. Senior

Jessica Scannapieco registered a hat trick with a game-tying seven draw controls.

Emily Castleman stood out defensively between the WNE pipes by tying a season high with 17 saves.
The Hawks were led by three goals apiece from Kristen Pingree and Deven Machette. Jessica Searl also enjoyed a multi-point game with three on a goal and two assists.
After RWU took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Pingree just 1 minute and 56 seconds in, Western New England erupted for 11 goals over a 19-minute span. The Golden Bears took a commanding 13-3 advantage into halftime.
The teams began the second half by trading the next seven goals before the Hawks scored the final four tallies to account for the final seven-goal margin.
Roger Williams outshot Western New England 36 to 31, including 27-24 on the cage, but the Castleman-led Golden Bears' defense came up big.
Mackenzie Logan had seven draw controls and four ground balls for RWU. Lauren Piotrowski led all players with six ground balls.
