SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--No. 2 seed Endicott College outscored top-seeded Western New England University 10 to 7 in the second half to take a 17-15 victory Saturday in the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference championship game at Golden Bear Stadium. With the win, the visiting Gulls (12-7) earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Golden Bears, meanwhile, fall to 14-5 overall and hope to continue their postseason run with an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England or NCAA tournaments.
The freshmen trio of
Brooke Kumnick (5 goals),
Taylor Scialdone (3 goals) and
Tori Cirocco (3 goals, 1 assist) combined for 12 of WNE's 22 points on the afternoon.
Endicott's Callie Murphy led all scorers with six goals and eight points, while Caitlin Pratt contributed four goals and Kelly Tierney chipped in five assists. Lauren Todd recorded a hat trick and Katie Tierney came off the bench to score twice, collect four ground balls and cause two turnovers.
With the score knotted at 12 after sophomore
Kaitlynn Stevens found the back of the net for the Golden Bears with 18:36 left on the game clock, Endicott reeled off three unanswered goals--the last two on WNE turnovers--in a span of 3 minutes and 59 seconds to take control.
Endicott scored two man-up goals, taking advantage of four yellow card, 2-minute penalties whistled on WNE.

Jessica Scannapieco (2 goals, 2 assists, 3 ground balls, 15 draw controls), junior tri-captain
Kelsey Sherman (2 assists, 4 ground balls) and Stevens (2 goals, 1 assist, 3 ground balls) also shined for WNE.
Rachel Socolow made 10 saves in the Endicott goal, while her counterpart on the other end
Melissa Perry, a sophomore, posted 14. Perry did her part to help WNE take an 8-7 halftime lead by making 11 stops.
As a team, Western New England held a commanding 20-14 lead in draw controls but committed 19 turnovers to Endicott's 11.
Kumnick scored three goals during a 4-0 run that erased a 6-4 deficit and helped the Golden Bears go up 8-7 going into the intermission.
