Brionna Voight's Three Points, Briana Kubik's Eight Saves Power 2-0 Victory at Elms

Box Score CHICOPEE, Mass.--Freshman Brionna Voight had a goal and an assist, and sophomore keeper Briana Kubik made eight saves, to lead visiting Western New England to a 2-0 shutout at Elms in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Leary Field on Tuesday. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 5-3-1 on the season; the Blazers dip to 2-4-1.

Voight made it 1-0 by converting a penalty kick in the 11th minute, and then assisted on Chelsea Kuzio's goal in the 37th minute.

Despite scoring just two goals, the WNE offense kept pressing and hoping to catch the EC defense flat-footed as the Golden Bears were whistled for offside 12 times. Western New England also enjoyed a 4-1 cushion in corner kicks.

Elms outshot WNE by an 18 to 13 count--led by Melissa Welch with eight, including four on goal.

Kubik tied a season high with her eight stops, and the rest of the Golden Bears defensive unit that included starters Danielle Savoie, Amanda Waluszko and Jessica Burke chalked up their fourth shutout of 2013.

Erika Aponte (4 saves, 2 goals-against) and Alexa Rinaudo (2 saves) each played a half in the Blazers' goal.
