SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Talia Fish scored two goals and assisted on another to help visiting Clark University get past Western New England University, 6-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday evening at Golden Bear Stadium. The Cougars improve to 5-3 overall while the Golden Bears drop to 1-7.
Senior tri-captain
Jaynie Mueller cut WNE's deficit to 2-1 in the 14th minute with a penalty stroke, flicking her shot into the upper left-corner of the cage for her second goal of the season. She accounted for half of the Golden Bears' six shots, and three of four on target, in the contest.
But three minutes later, Lauren Mackey notched her eighth goal to restore CU's lead it would not relinquish again.
Western New England was able to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half, trailing only 2-1.
Clark, however, put the game away in the second half with three goals in a span of 2 minutes and 44 seconds, beginning with Zoe Armstrong's first goal of 2013 in the 47th minute.
Fish opened and closed the scoring with goals in the 5th and 65th minutes.
Western New England for most of the game was without the services of two-time reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week
Jessica Scannapieco, who left in the first half after being struck in the face by a ball while defending a shot in front of the WNE goal.
