Golden Bears Fall 1-0 in Overtime to Endicott in Showdown of Top CCC Teams

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Paige Marinelli scored the only goal of the game with 3 minutes and 19 seconds gone in overtime to lift Endicott to a 1-0 victory over Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at Suprenant Field. The visiting Gulls improve to 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears slip under .500 at 5-6-3 on the season and 2-2-1 in the conference.

Throughout the game, Endicott controlled most of the possession even though the contest was scoreless after 90 minutes of regulation. The Gulls had a total of 19 shots, with 11 on goal; the Golden Bears had three shots in total, with none on goal. The Gulls also led the corner kick battle, 5-3.

Junior goalkeeper Briana Kubik stopped 10 shots to keep WNE within striking distance.

But in the 94th minute, Rebecca Litwin picked up a loose ball around midfield and started driving down the field. She then dished the ball to Marinelli who was driving towards the net from the wing. She was able to beat Kubik who came out to almost the top of the 18-yard box to cut down the angle, but Marinelli was able to put a shot over the sliding goalie and the ball found the right side of an empty net for her third goal on the season.

The best scoring opportunity for the Golden Bears came early in the second half when senior Tayler Mazurski was able to get free down the right sideline and served the ball into the box. Sophomore Samantha Emmert was the target for Mazurski's service but the ball was a little out of her reach.

The Golden Bears are next in action here on Wednesday at Suprenant Field in a non-conference matchup with Westfield State, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
