Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The host Western New England University women's volleyball team came back to sweep Westfield State 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 after falling to Babson College in three sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, in a non-conference tri-match at the Alumni Healthful Living Center on Friday evening. The Golden Bears, who are ranked 12th in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association Division III poll, now stand at 14-6 on the season, while the Owls sit at 6-13 and the Beavers are now 16-5.

After a tough loss to Babson, Western New England rebounded nicely versus Westfield by outhitting the Owls .327 to .143 and doubling up on kills for the match, 49-23. Junior Olivia Lathrop (.526) and senior Kasey Cameron (.310) led the Golden Bears attack with 12 kills apiece to lead all players, as the duo combined for only five errors on 48 total attempts. Sophomore setters Jessica Sincero (5 kills, 6 digs) and Jenna Leuck (2 kills, 6 digs) directed the offense with 21 and 19 assists, respectively.

For the Owls, Victoria Sutphen had eight kills and Carolyn Cote, seven, Courtney Ryan dished 19 assists and Sarah Green recorded 11 digs.

In the opening frame, the teams traded points before WNE took a slim 21-20 lead into a four-point win, as Cameron nailed two kills down the stretch and Sincero clinched set point with a put-down.

Western New England led wire-to-wire in the second set, jumping out to a 12-3 cushion and never looking back. The Owls were held to .043 hitting in the stanza while WNE had a .231 clip.

Westfield took an 8-5 advantage in the final set on a Cote kill before WNE went on a 12-3 run--keyed by four kills from Cameron--to charge ahead for good at 17-11. Freshman Carly Skibinski had one of her six kills on match point to give the Golden Bears the set by seven points.

Against Babson, WNE couldn't overcome a strong Beavers block party and an inconsistent offense. The Golden Bears hit just .062 as a team, but Babson had 10 total team blocks. Setter Krissy Robertson led the BC defense with 10 digs and a match-best eight total blocks to go along with 16 assists, and Alana Atchison added three block assists.

Lathrop and Skibinski each posted eight kills for the Golden Bears, who did not lead in the opening set. Cameron added seven kills and 11 digs, senior Kendra Ouimette had 12 digs and classmate Grace Kucharski made 13 digs.

Pacing the Babson offense were Mary Donahue, Lorraine Mackiewicz and Alicia Wilde with nine, seven and six kills, respectively. The Beavers hit for a .200 clip.

Western New England tried to get back into the match in the third set by forging seven ties and five lead changes, but couldn't get on track with a minus-.031 attack percentage in the decisive frame.

Western New England is idle this weekend before getting back into Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Wednesday at Curry College in Milton, starting at 7 p.m.
