Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Visiting University of New England took advantage of a depleted Western New England University squad missing three starters and handed the Golden Bears their first Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer loss of the season, 4-0, at Suprenant Field on Saturday. UNE improves to 7-2 overall and overtakes first place in the CCC standings at 3-1, while Western New England is now 4-5-3 and 2-1-1 in the conference.
The Nor'easters opened up the scoring in the 17th minute with a goal by Becca Murphy, her sixth of the season on an assist by Jackie Dickerson.
The Nor'easters were able to strike again just 5 minutes after their first goal. This time, Dickerson scored her fourth tally on the season as she picked up a rebound shot and buried it. Lindsey Monaco was able to get a shot on net that Golden Bears'
Briana Kubik (6 saves) had to save. Dickerson was in perfect position and without hesitation was able to beat the junior goalkeeper.
In the 48th minute, just three minutes into the second half, team-leading goal scorer Murphy was able to notch her second of the afternoon and seventh of the season from Margaret Palmer.
Taylor Littlefield closed the scoring in the 77th minute with an unassisted goal as she able to get free and launch a wicked shot past Kubik for her first goal of the year.
The Golden Bears, who were leading the CCC standings before today, could not get a strong offensive attack going throughout the entire game. Today's loss--the first by a four-goal margin this fall--snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for WNE, which was 2-0-2 during that span.
The Golden Bears were able to get six shots total, getting four of them on frame. Senior
Tayler Mazurski led the way with three shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brielle Robinson was able to stop all four shots on net for her second shutout for the Nor'easters. The team was able to put up 21 total shots, 10 of which were on goal.
The Golden Bears are next in action on Wednesday at non-conference opponent Massachusetts College at 4 p.m.
