Make it a Baker's Dozen: Golden Bears Win 13 Straight at Roger Williams, 14-12

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I.--The Western New England University women's lacrosse team used a fast start and then had to hold off a Roger Williams comeback attempt in the second half to edge the host Hawks in a 14-12 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference encounter on Wednesday, extending the Golden Bears winning streak to 13 games overall and 5-0 in the CCC.

Sophomore Taylor Scialdone led WNE with five points on two goals and three assists, senior Shelby Trebbe added four goals, and junior Kaitlynn Stevens matched Trebbe with four points including three goals and an assist.

Kelsey Rahilly led all scorers with six points, including five assists, for the Hawks, who fall to 5-7 on the season and 3-3 in the conference. Deven Machette and Kristen Pingree each recorded a hat trick, while Mackenzie Logan and McKenna Everding contributed two goals apiece.

Western New England outscored RWU, 10-2, in the first half, but the Hawks tallied 10 goals to four for the Golden Bears in the second to give the visitors a scare.

Western New England never trailed against the Hawks, and sophomore Bethany Peters (2 goals, 1 assist) scored a man-down goal with 1 minute and 13 seconds left to seal the two-goal margin of victory.

Logan led all players with 10 draw controls while junior tri-captain Jessica Scannapieco (1 goal, 1 assist) had five for the Golden Bears, who held a slim 31-30 shots advantage.

Junior Emily Castleman bested reigning CCC and ECAC New England Defensive Player of the Week Kimberly Bolk in a battle of goalkeepers, making 13 saves to Bolk's 12 and extending a personal best of 12 wins in a season.

The Golden Bears will play at Endicott College on Tuesday (4 p.m.) in a key conference match-up, as both teams are undefeated in CCC games with identical 5-0 records.
