NEWPORT, R.I.--The Western New England University softball team fell in a pair of extra-frame heartbreakers at Salve Regina University on Saturday, as the host Seahawks came from behind to get a 6-5 win in nine innings in the first game and prevailed 2-1 in eight in the second. The Golden Bears fall to 10-14 overall and 6-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while SRU improves to 13-13 and 10-2 in the league.

Alexis Bukowski led Western New England at the plate by going 4-for-7 with two runs batted in on the day. Senior tri-captain

Corianna DeLisi added three hits apiece.
In the opener, Western New England broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Francese and junior
Lauren Zambrano hit back-to-back RBI singles and Bukowski capped the team's scoring with a two-run double down the left field line.
Salve, however, countered with four runs of its own in its bottom half to tie it 5-5. Jenna Edine had a sacrifice fly to center, Genevieve Benoit doubled to left field to bring home another run, Lauren Fountain singled to bring the Seahawks within 5-4, and Katie Napier singled to extend the game to another inning.
After WNE was unable to score in the ninth, Edine singled home the game-winning run with no outs for the Seahawks.
Western New England outhit Salve 11-10 as Francese and Bukowski had three apiece. Edine and Benoit, who each had two runs driven in, were among four Seahawks with two hits each.
In the nightcap, Salve's Edine forced in the game-winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth frame. Edine also staked the Seahawks to a 1-0 lead on a RBI-single in the first.

The Golden Bears will host Wentworth at noon Sunday in a CCC doubleheader at Golden Bear Softball Park.
