Senior Co-Captain Megan French Pumps in a Career-High Three Goals in 6-1 Victory

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University field hockey team used career performances from senior co-captain Megan French and freshman Brittany DeLima on Wednesday evening as the Golden Bears cruised to a 6-1 non-conference win over visiting Elms College. It gave the program its largest margin of victory under new coach Judy Strong. The Golden Bears improve to 2-1 while the Blazers remain winless at 0-4.

French registered her first career hat trick and DeLima pumped in a career-best five points on two goals and an assist to pace the Western New England offense, which outshot Elms 18 to 5. DeLima started the scoring just 2 minutes and 23 seconds into the contest, setting the tone for the Golden Bears.

Freshman Allison Jackson made it 2-0 2:49 later on an assist from DeLima. French scored WNE's third goal of the half in the 11th minute for insurance and the Golden Bears never looked back.

Meghan Goodrow spoiled WNE's shutout bid with the Blazers' lone goal coming in the 21st minute.

Keeper Samantha Alvino tried to keep the Blazers close by making nine saves. Western New England employed two goalies including freshman starter Renee Rossignol who got the win and classmate Dominique Corveddu who played the final 5:03 to make her season debut.

Western New England's next outing will be on Saturday when the Golden Bears will have their final Commonwealth Coast Conference tune-up at Clark in Worcester, starting at 1 p.m.
