WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 14, 2015) - The Westfield State University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half on its way to a 4-1 victory over visiting Western New England University this evening in non-conference action at Alumni Field.
Senior midfielder
Paige Dupilka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) provided the offense for the Golden Bears, finding the back of the net in the 44
th minute to cut Western New England's deficit to one at the break.
Junior back
Katelyn Cummings (Feeding Hills, Mass.) sent a corner kick into a cluster of players in front of the net, classmate
Samantha Emmert (Hyde Park, N.Y.) collected the ball and found DuPilka, who beat Westfield State freshman goalkeeper
Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.).
Western New England senior goalkeeper
Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) made eight saves in 84 minutes between the posts, while freshman
Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) came on for the final six minutes and recorded one stop.
Sophomore
Hannah Zannini (Amesbury, Mass.) and freshman
Nicole Chretien (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for Westfield State, as the duo had a hand in all four Owls' goals. Chretien provided assists on both of Zannini's first half strikes before finding the back of the net herself in the 49
th minute, and Zannini dished out an assist on the final goal of the contest in the 72
nd minute.
Western New England (3-10-2, 1-3-1 CCC) will look to bounce back on Saturday at Endicott College, while Westfield State (7-4-1, 3-0-1 MASCAC) is on the road Saturday afternoon at Worcester State University. Â
