SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (October 22, 2015) - Sophomore forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) scored for the second consecutive game and fifth time over the last four contests, but the Western New England University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 non-conference decision to Mount Holyoke College this evening.

Mount Holyoke opened the scoring two and a half minutes into the game, when junior Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, Pa.) collected her own rebound following a kick save by Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) and fired a shot into the right corner of the goal. Wagner led the Lyons with a goal and two assists tonight as Mount Holyoke extended its winning streak to five.

The score would remain the same for much of the first half, until sophomore Sophie Perekslis (Millerton, N.Y.) gave the home team a 2-0 lead one minute and 16 seconds before halftime. Wagner set up freshman Colby Newsham (Harvard, Mass.) for the game's third goal in the 39^th minute, and Perekslis potted her second of the contest shortly after. Senior Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.) capped the scoring for Mount Holyoke in the 49^th minute with the help of Wagner's second assist, as the Lyons increased their lead to five.

Western New England broke through in the 52^nd minute, when DeLima redirected freshman Lana Felice's (Pawling, N.Y.) shot past Mount Holyoke goalkeeper Liz DeCesare (Westford, Mass.). The goal was DeLima's eighth of the season, which is tied for first on the team and eighth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

The Golden Bears nearly cut their deficit to three in the 62^nd minute, as freshman Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.) beat a Mount Holyoke defender and launched a shot at the goal, but it went inches wide.

Trupe finished with 11 saves for Western New England, her third 10+ save effort of the season and just three shy of her season-high of 14, set back in September against Springfield College.

Both Western New England (7-8, 4-5 CCC) and Mount Holyoke (10-5, 4-2 NEWMAC) return to conference play on the road this Saturday, as the Golden Bears are scheduled to take on Salve Regina University at noon and the Lyons square off with MIT at 1 p.m.
