Western New England Gains Another Split on Day 2 of the NTS Spring Games in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.--After a stinging 7-6 walk-off loss to Worcester State, the Western New England softball team was able to bounce back and knock off Bowdoin College, 4-1, on the second day of the 2015 National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games on Sunday. The Golden Bears are now 2-2 on the season.

Junior Heather Fecteau continued her strong start in the Sunshine State by going 3-for-6 with two runs batted in on the afternoon.

In the three-run win over the Polar Bears, junior pitcher Heidi Grieger got all the run support she needed in the top of the second inning as the Golden Bears pushed four runs across the plate. Senior Samantha Mulhern had a RBI-triple to highlight the crooked number.

For her part, Grieger scattered seven hits to earn the complete-game victory. She had two strikeouts and did not issue a walk, while inducing 13 groundouts.

Worcester scored the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh on freshman pinch-hitter Danielle Cacciola's bases loaded RBI-single to left field, bringing home Jillian Witkowski who had led off with an infield single.

Fecteau delivered a run-scoring single in the sixth to knot the score, 6-6. She also drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the contest, 5-5, in the fourth.

After WNE stormed back from a 5-2 deficit with single runs in the second, third and fourth frames to tie it 5-all, Sara Pelletier put the Lancers ahead again with a single to center field. Pelletier finished the contest with three hits and four RBI, and Courtney Salisbury also had three hits.

Worcester took a 5-2 lead after the first inning as Pelletier hit a bases-clearing double to left field. Taylor Hanley capped the rally with a two-run single.

Senior Grace Kucharski had a two-run double to left-center in the top of the first to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage.

Mulhern finished with two hits, including a RBI-triple, and Fecteau also had two hits that included a RBI-double.

Western New England continues NTS action on Monday when it travels to nearby Minneola, Field #2, to play Southern Maine and St. Lawrence at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
